Day 6 – July 6, 2016
After 3 days of dreary, chilly (temps in the 60s!) weather, we woke up to sunshine and blue skies. Looks like my box from the US won’t arrive until tomorrow, so we decided a trip to Chartres to see the famous cathedral was in order. We took back roads so the trip was an hour, but we saw some lovely French farmland. This is the wheat growing heartland. The fields are lovely and clean. But we can’t figure out what the tracks through the fields are for.
Most of the cathedral was built in the 12th and 13th century. Since 2009, there has been a restoration process going on. It is really remarkable the difference between where they have cleaned the stone and where they haven’t! There were beautiful flowers around the church. I guess the flowers like the cool rainy weather.
After the cathedral it was time for lunch in a sidewalk café. Good food, good wine, and a good time was had by all.!
